The wheel is laced to the motor. Any Battery will be shipped separately from the Kit. There's a little assembly required, but nothing difficult. MOTOR: ZERO Maintenance. Although The Phoenix II comes in several torque and speed models, we offer a motor the one motor that has a combination of Great torque and Great speed (Cruiser Model 3540). We believe that this will provide most riders the very best reliability. Hall Sensors and less motor weight also are superb improvements on the Phoenix “II”. The Phoenix II comes in Front or Rear Motors, and will accept DISC Brakes. TORQUE (Brute) & SPEED (Racer) Motors are also available on request. WHEEL BUILD: We use Phil Wood Tapered Stainless Steel Spokes for most Phoenix II wheels. Available in 20", 24", 26", and 700C rims. All of these rims are double-walled. We lace the motor to the rim on our bench. We tighten the spokes to the correct tension, and make sure the wheel is true before shipping. CONTROLLER (Crystalyte 36v or 48v 40amp). This is actually too much power, therefore, we recommend the Direct Plug-In Cycle Analyst modification ($35) so you can over-ride controller. Set max Speed and/or reduce Amps for longer distance and lower internal heat produced by the motor and controller. The Cycle Analyst ($150) will indicate Amp Hours used. All Phoenix II controllers include plugs that will only fit into their mating plug, so there is no chance of plugging something in backward. NOTE: Plugs are identified by the total number of pins/holes available, not the number of pins/holes being used. THROTTLE; Thumb Throttle (recommended) RE-GEN PIM CONTROLLER; COMPACT 25A, 36v or 48v Aluminum Case. The Topeak brand offers high quality material and a sliding/locking mechanism for the bag to attach to the rack. This bag/rack combo makes removing your batteries an easy task that takes only seconds. The bag has a top trunk portion, and also 2 concealed panniers that fold out for more storage space. The batteries take up most of the trunk portion, while the panniers are completely empty for storage. CRUISE CONTROL ($30) & BRAKE INHIBIT ($30): The cruise control functions almost like the one in your car, except that it is not regulating speed, it is regulating current (amps). The brake inhibits are a safety feature that cut the power to the motor when a brake lever is pulled. We recommend you always use brake inhibits when using cruise control for safety reasons. SPOKE WRENCH ($5); a metal ring about 1" diameter that has notches cut out. Keep an eye out for this in your package as it is not obvious to most. Things you may want to add: Lights, Mirrors, Double Kickstand or Rear Kickstand. Please browse the selection on our Accessories page. PING LiFePo4 Battery instead of the standard 12AH batteries, we'll substitute the change for only the difference in price. | 12/23/2011 Patrick, Don’t know if I’m getting the most out my bike but it has been a fun project. My old bike is out on the road again, having the wind in you face is a great feeling. Did a bike ride today using the cruise control and really liked it. It’s great just set the speed and shift gears to help the motor. This afternoon after returning home from my ride I decided to charge the battery. Went 35 miles used 15 amps and had 50 volts remaining in the battery. Think my range would be much better with not having so many hills to climb. The Cycle Analyst at least gives me some idea of what is going on and how far I can travel. So next will be some adventures farther from home. Thank you , Sam J. |
