Electric bikes are legally bikes and can be ridden in bike lanes and on bike trails in most locations. That means big safety advantages over motorcycles and scooters because you don't have to mix with automobiles. Or, get caught in traffic . Legal maximum speeds for electric bicycles vary by jurisdiction. To use these higher speeds, you may need to register your bike as a moped, operate off road only, or stay under the radar, literally. In practice though, in most locations pollution free transport is encouraged and no one seems to notice if you go a bit fast now and then. Just be courteous to other road users and especially pedestrians. |

| BMC is an established, respected maker of electric motors. This is their internally geared hub motor. The gearing allows the motor to spin about 5 times faster than the axle. This has many benefits compared to direct drive hub motors that spin the axle at motor speed. Electric motors are more efficient and torquey when they spin at higher RPMs. This motor has the power of direct drive motors twice its size. It weighs just 9 lbs and is only 7.5" in diameter and has the torque to help with steep grades. The gearing also allows the motor to spin freely when coasting. Regular direct drive hubs and add drag when you choose to use pedal power only or coast. ● At 36 volts, this has a on-bike speed of 25 miles per hour (48volts will perform > 30 mph).. ● Will accept high voltages up to 72V, but not recommended due to heat from phase wires. ● The main difference between the V2 series and the V1 BMC motors is the capability to handle much more power due to larger gauge windings, and more durable internal gear assembly. More power means faster climbing and higher top speed. ● V2 motor handles 600 watts or more continuously, and bursts of 1500 watts or so. We do not know the effective limit of the motor, but we're sure it has one. Warranted use is 600W continuous with short bursts up to 1,200 watts. ● Accepts 7,8 speed freewheel (not a cassette). ● The 48V 30A controller can produce 1100W peak with Lead Acid, 1200W with LiFePO4. ● With a high speed V3-S the maximum assist speed at 48V with 26" wheel is about 45 mph. ● A great application of this motor is for high speed light weight foldables or recumbents with smaller 20" wheels. This winding allows more speed with 20" and you can consider climbing hills with the smaller wheel.
