| 5-20-2011 Pat, This bike is the greatest. After what I consider long rides, it has never taken over 45 minutes to recharge. The instructions say it could take up to 6 hours to recharge. I go farther away each time and doubt that I could ride long enough to completely deplete the battery. I am a happy customer. Regards, Jack B |
| Battery Maintenance A Common reason for reduced battery capacity is unbalanced cells. To keep battery cells balanced, it is recommended to leave battery connected to a charger for several hours after charging light turns green (indicating battery is charged) once every few charging cycles. Cell balancing takes place only while charger is connected to a battery and after charging light turns green. Since cells are not exactly the same (it's just a nature of LiFePO4 chemistry), some cells get drained slightly faster than others, therefore take a little longer to charge. If they're not balanced on next charge, they will get even more out of balance during next discharge. Cells being out of balance doesn't hurt a battery in any way, it just reduces overall capacity since BMS cuts off power as soon as it detects any once cell reaching minimum voltage limit. Charge/balance battery once a month if it is not being used. The reason cells get out of balance while in storage is that BMS constantly draws small current of a few particular cells but not all cells. Current draw is minimal but enough to bring cells out of balance after battery has not been charged for several months. Also, the Charger will not work if the voltage is allowed to drop too low. BMS: Battery Management System Precisely monitors individual cells, keeping them in balance for best performance and preventing damage to the battery due to over voltage, under voltage, over temperature and short circuit. |

| 8-6-2011 Pat, The battery arrived to replace the one that wasn't as responsive in my 48 volt pack. It reads 12.9 volts (the other 3 read 13.1 and the one it's replacing read 11.9) The good/bad battery meter has the needle jumping up into the green, as it does with the other 3 good batteries, and didn't with the one it's replacing. Most importantly, I used it on my full day of commuting today, 8 miles, and it kept full power the whole way (before, the battery pack was dead after only 4 miles.) So, I'm a happy camper! I packed up the original charger that you replaced for me, the good/bad battery meter that you loaned to me, and a check for $10.00 for the volt meter that you sent to me. I will get it to the post office tomorrow. Thank you so much for all you've done for me. Your customer service is exceptional! I appreciate that you helped me with the installation of the motor on my bike plus the follow up with the battery problem until it was resolved. My bike is now fantastic! | Want Higher Performance!!! UPGRADE to PING HIGH RATE BMS $50 See Picture below The normal BMS allows 40amps maximum continuous discharge current. The high rate BMS allows 60amps maximum continuous discharge current. So, if the peak of the controller is more than 40amps, the normal BMS could cut off at full throttle. Also, the high rate BMS will send out less heat even if the discharge current is same, because there’re more MOSFETs on the high rate BMS. Furthermore, the high rate BMS has two charging MOSFETs, but the normal BMS has only one.
